Steps to follow after your roof has been damaged by a storm or natural disaster.

  1. Safety First: Prioritize your safety and that of your family. Avoid trying to inspect the damage during a storm or when it’s unsafe to do so.
  2. Assess Immediate Damage: Once it’s safe, perform a cursory check for visible damages from the ground. Look for missing shingles, damaged flashing, or debris on the roof.
  3. Document the Damage: Take clear photos or videos of the damage for insurance purposes. Include wide shots of the entire roof and close-ups of specific damages.
  4. Temporary Measures: If possible, take temporary measures to prevent further damage, like covering broken areas with a tarp. However, only do this if it’s safe to climb onto the roof.
  5. Contact a Professional Roofer: Reach out to a licensed storm damage roofer. They can provide a thorough inspection, assess the damage, and suggest the best course of action.
  6. Check for Interior Damage: Inspect your attic or top floor for leaks or water damage. Look for wet insulation, stained ceilings, or damp walls.
  7. Contact Your Insurance Company: Inform your insurance company about the damage as soon as possible. Provide them with the documentation you’ve gathered.
  8. Review Your Insurance Policy: Understand what your insurance policy covers in terms of storm damage. Know your deductible and any relevant policy limits.
  9. Obtain a Detailed Roof Inspection Report: When the professional roofer inspects your roof, ask for a detailed report that can be submitted to your insurance company.
  10. Get a Written Estimate: Obtain a written estimate from the roofing contractor for the repair or replacement work needed.
  11. Beware of Scams: Be cautious of contractors who show up unsolicited after a storm. Always choose a reputable, licensed roofer.
  12. Plan for Repairs or Replacement: Based on the roofer’s assessment and the insurance company’s input, plan for the necessary repairs or replacement.
  13. Follow Up with Insurance Claims: Stay in regular contact with your insurance company to ensure your claim is processed in a timely manner.
  14. Schedule the Repair Work: Coordinate with your roofing contractor to schedule the repair or replacement work.
  15. Prepare for the Roofers: Make necessary preparations for the roofing work, such as clearing the driveway and ensuring pets are safe.
  16. Post-Repair Inspection: After the repairs are completed, have a final inspection to ensure everything is done to your satisfaction.
  17. Keep Records: Keep all records of the repair work, payments, and correspondence with your insurance company for future reference.

The owner of River Valley, Andrew is the reason I decided on this company to install my roof. I did have three very comparable quotes. I chose Andrew because he was very knowledgeable and provided me with a lot more information about a new roof than the other companies. He also is very personable which I like when dealing with anyone I am going to have do work for me. Also his crew was excellent. I am not going to lie, I was extremely shocked this roof got done in one day. I looked out midday and said no way will they finish. The crew did finish, 7 guys on roof and one doing all the cleanup which  To the one cleanup guy. He really was amazing!! The outside looked like a war zone in my opinion and he miraculously cleaned up everything impeccably. I love my new roof and am extremely happy with this company. Lastly Andrew answered all of my text messages promptly and with care and courtesy. This is definitely who you want to replace your roof!!!!

Highly recommend Andrew and his River Valley Roofing Team for any roofing needs. He was one of the easiest contractors I have ever worked with. He does was he says and stands by his work. Andrew always responded quickly, and answered all of our questions. They were in and out in one day. He pays close attention to every detail, from materials, protecting your home and landscaping, to dumpster placement and clean up. Nicely done from start to finish. He was also helpful in working with our insurance.
